These days, it seems like we are constantly hearing about how technology is making certain jobs obsolete. Cashiers are being replaced by self-checkout machines, assembly line and factory workers are being replaced by robots, ATMs do much of the work that bank tellers used to do exclusively, and soon (or so we hear), taxi drivers will be replaced by self-driving cars. This is not a new trend. When was the last time you talked to a telephone operator, for example? Technology marches on, whether we like it or not.
As audiovisual technology becomes more advanced, there are those that claim the AV programming industry is becoming obsolete. While this may be true someday in the distant future, we don’t see it happening anytime soon—maybe ever.
Yes, some higher-end AV products are starting to come with some built-in functionality or are made to be configurable by someone other than an AV programmer. For example, Crestron products, which we work with on a daily basis at AVPA, have come a long way in providing certain types of functionality that a lot of consumers are looking for. This means that certain products will require no additional programming and can serve the purposes of some users right out of the box.
However, AV programmers, including Crestron programmers, are far from becoming obsolete. This is because there are still plenty of consumers out there who want customized functionality in their AV systems. We can’t see a scenario in which a company like Crestron will be able to anticipate every consumer demand that will ever exist, so we believe there will always be a need for companies like ours that can provide Crestron custom programming.
In our more than 20 years in this industry, we’ve received some pretty specific requests from our clients, and so far, we’ve been able to satisfy all of them! We like to say, “If you can dream it, we can make it happen.” There are plenty of consumers out there who won’t be satisfied with only the functionality that is included with the AV product they purchase, and those are the clients who will continue to call us to provide them with custom Crestron programming for their homes and businesses in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles.
In addition, our company also serves clients with older Crestron systems in need of updating, expanding, or troubleshooting. For clients who like their current Crestron system, but just need some help making it more suitable for their current needs, our AV programming company can help. We don’t limit ourselves to only programming new Crestron systems, like other programming companies do. We anticipate this type of work will continue to be valued in the marketplace as well.
If you are looking for a company that specializes in Crestron custom programming or system upgrades, contact us at AVPA. We would love to hear more about your project and how our company can help.
