Here at AVPA, we recently finished work on an exciting project! We had the privilege of being a part of the team of Crestron programmers for the brand new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. This large, state-of-the-art facility is home to the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons, and also hosts top recording artists and other large events. The arena is one of the main hubs of the newly renovated The District Detroit, which is seeking to revitalize the downtown core of Detroit by making it a more vibrant place to live, work, and play.
AVPA was brought on to this project by a company called Venutize that specializes in enhancing the visitor experience through experience-driven mobile apps. Initially, the team at Venuetize was looking just for a programming consultant for the Little Caesars Arena project, but after some discussion, they decided to contract with us to complete a portion of the Crestron programming for the arena. Specifically, we were tasked with doing the BACnet HVAC integration.
Our company has a lot of experience with BACnet integration, having done many projects where we have controlled lights, shades, and HVAC systems, all via BACnet. This extensive experience helps move projects like this one along more quickly, since we already know what information we need for these types of projects. Our experience also gives confidence to the other contractors working on the project, knowing that our portion of the integration will be done properly.
Our job was to write code that would talk to the arena’s HVAC equipment. Another programming company worked with us to provide middleware programming between our code and Venuetize’s iPad app. Every suite in the Little Caesars Arena has its own iPad, complete with an app that allows guests to control the temperature of their suite (as well as handle other things, like food service requests).
Overall, it was a great experience to work on the arena and know that our programming work will have a part in helping the fans have a more enjoyable (and comfortable) experience there. We are grateful to Venuetize for giving us the opportunity to work with them on this exciting project, and we hope to work with this great company again in the future! It’s not every day that we get to do programming work on a facility like the Little Caesars Arena, and not often do we work alongside other Crestron programming companies, so this project was unique in many ways, keeping things interesting for our team of programmers.
