Crestron Upgrade for Nevada Courthouse Video Conferencing System

The Douglas County Courthouse is a historical, as well as a functioning courthouse in Minden, Nevada. The judges presiding in the courthouse hear a variety of cases, including criminal and civil cases, probate matters, and family matters.

AV Programming Associates was brought in by our friends at SoSu.TV to help the courthouse improve their video conferencing system. They were experiencing issues with their existing system—specifically with the system’s audio while conducting video conference calls.

We completed the Crestron programming for the conferencing system upgrade in two phases. First, we got their existing system working with their current hardware, taking care of their immediate audio issue. Then we upgraded their system with a new Q-SyS digital signal processor (DSP), as well as a dedicated conferencing computer.

For their new interface, we provided the courthouse with both a Crestron TSW-770 touch panel and an iPad from which to control their video conferencing system. Both were programmed in such a way as to operate identically from an end user perspective. The interfaces are much more user-friendly than their previous devices, and allow the system to be used with only a minimal amount of training. The courthouse’s existing microphone system was integrated into the new system, and we removed sources that were not being used.

The new video conferencing system will operate in two modes: presentation and conferencing (Pro and Simplified). In conferencing mode, the user can display PC or laptop content to the main assembly display, as well as the overflow hall area.

To make the project more cost-effective and stay within the client’s budget, we were able to use most of their existing hardware, while still giving them the functionality they needed. The project was completed in partnership with other companies who provided DSP programming and installation.

Overall, the courthouse’s video conferencing system is easier to use, and they are able to conduct a Zoom or Teams call without any audio issues.
