We wanted to give you some insight into one of the commercial projects we recently completed at AVPA in order to give you an example of the type of Crestron programming we do for our commercial clients in San Diego and the resulting automated control we can provide for commercial spaces.
A while back, we were connected with THE LOT, a new, high-quality dining and luxury cinema experience with two locations (La Jolla and Liberty Station in San Diego). Each location is as unique as the neighborhood in which it resides, but both needed AVPA’s Crestron programming expertise to control building management systems, as well as lighting, audio, and video throughout the venues.
Both locations have several different areas within the venues themselves, including a fine dining area, a bar, a café, and a movie theater. We were tasked with programming systems that would give managers a way to easily control the areas’ various sub-systems. The resulting system offers independent control of all sub-systems using easy-to-operate touch panels and iPads with a custom graphical user interface (GUI).
For each area within the two venues, we developed advanced functionality to allow managers to take a snapshot of lighting, climate, and audio levels that they could then store as a preset and recall at any time. This feature saves valuable time for the venue managers, who don’t have to “reinvent the wheel” every time they want to change the mood in an area. We also programmed in the ability for managers to create presets in order to set up weekly schedules that provide automated control of sub-systems like lighting and climate—another time-saver for busy venue managers.
For the theater rooms at both locations, we programmed a system that allows audio and video to be piped into multiple theaters within the venue so the theater rooms could be rented out as presentation halls with overflow capabilities. This feature gives the venues an additional source of revenue when the theater rooms are not being used to show movies.
In the bar area, we programmed the 3×3 video wall for use as either one massive screen, or nine independent video streams, which are easily controlled from touch panels.
The Crestron system we programmed communicates with all sub-systems via BACNet, which is used as the underlying technology to control the lighting and climate building management systems.
All system interfaces at THE LOT are password protected to guard against unwanted control. In addition, all systems are monitored 24/7, and alerts are sent out if there are any systems failures.
The Crestron programming we completed at THE LOT gives the owners exactly what they were looking for—independent control of all lighting, climate, audio, and video in an easy-to-use system. If you’re in the San Diego area, check out one of THE LOT locations, and experience the ultimate 21st Century dining and movie experience.
