AVPA was founded on September 11, 2001 (yes, that September 11), which made for somewhat of a rocky start. But here we are, 15 years later, with more than 1,250 successfully completed projects under our belts, and still going strong!
Depending on your perspective, you may think 15 years in business is either a really long time, or no big deal. But let me tell you, 15 years in the professional audio/visual (A/V) industry is an eternity! This industry sees a lot of turnover. It seems like any time new technology comes along, another A/V company pops up, and most don’t seem to last more than a year or two.
What makes AVPA different? How have we been able to weather the storms and economic downturns, and adapt to ever-changing technology? We believe there are several keys to this:
Continuing Education in Crestron Programming
AVPA has always made an investment in continuing education. This includes attending training seminars, making sure our programmers are up-to-date on the latest products and technologies, and maintaining certifications from top programming systems companies like Crestron and Extron. Our excellent reputation with Crestron led to an invitation to serve on the Crestron Advisory Board, where we were one of eight independent programmers that would offer advice “from the field” to Crestron executives about their products and processes.
The AVPA team of programmers in San Diego is constantly growing, learning, and taking on new challenges. We are all lifelong learners who are never satisfied with the status quo.
Building a Team with the Right People
Good people are the backbone of any successful business. It may sound obvious to say this, but many view business as simply a series of systems and processes. At AVPA, we have always made it a priority to hire and keep good people. We know we can teach the right person everything he or she needs to know about Crestron programming or interface design, whereas we can’t teach attitude, work ethic, or drive.
Many of our team members have been with us for years. We enjoy working together and push each other to do the best work possible for our clients.
Building and Maintaining Relationships with Customers
Another reason why AVPA has succeeded while other A/V programming companies in San Diego have not, is because we make it a priority to maintain great relationships with our clients. We treat our clients with respect and are always up-front and honest with them. We work hard to give them all the features they want, whether it’s for a custom home theater, a corporate boardroom, or an entertainment venue, while staying on schedule and on budget. Many times, our clients reward us with repeat business or refer us to their friends and colleagues.
Accomplishments of the Last 15 Years in the Crestron Programming Business
Like we mentioned above, AVPA has completed more than 1,250 projects in our 15 years. Many of those Crestron programming projects were in the San Diego area, but we’ve also worked around the world, including at the U.S. Naval base in Singapore!
We’ve completed high-end residential projects, like the programming for San Diego’s first passive home, as well as corporate and government projects, and programming for the entertainment and hospitality industries (see our recent blog post about THE LOT in San Diego).
If you are interested in learning more about the history and business philosophy of AVPA, you can read about it in AVPA President Matt Grisafe’s book, Our Code, which is available in both digital and print formats.
