Orange County Estate Is Fully Integrated Through Crestron Programming
For this residential Crestron programming project, we were brought in by our friends at Orth Designs. We’ve worked with Orth Designs on many commercial AV projects over the years, but they called us in to help on this project for our residential experience. The homeowners on this project own an electrical contracting company (Herzog Electric) that we’ve worked with in the past. They live in an area of Orange County called Orange Park Estates, which is an unincorporated community in Orange County, California. It is known for its rural feel, with open spaces, large lots, and many miles of horse trails. In recent years, many of the original homes, built in the 1970s, have begun to be remodeled into high-end estates.
These homeowners are very familiar with smart home technology. They had a smart home system in another residence, and now wanted a fully integrated system in this home. Because of their experience with these types of systems, they were able to provide a good amount of input into the design phase of the process—specifically with regard to the home’s lighting. We love it when a homeowner wants to have input on their system, as it helps us better meet their needs and expectations for their smart home.
The home’s HVAC system is controlled through CoolMaster, the pool’s mechanics through Pentair IntelliCenter, and the entry gates through DoorBird. All of the video is done through Crestron Digital Media and for the audio, we employed a commercial product called Q-SYS.
All of the home’s systems are now able to be controlled using a single app on the homeowners’ iPhones and iPads. Most people use separate apps to control their HVAC system, lighting, pool mechanics, and gates, which requires them to move from app to app to control or program each individual system. However, for these homeowners, we integrated all of them under Crestron, and one app controls everything! In addition, the system can be accessed remotely when needed.
As with many of the residential projects we are completing these days, this home had a need for a robust network that could handle all of the home’s systems—audio, video, internet, security cameras, and more. In other words, today’s homes have the same networking requirements as many businesses! An IT specialist was brought in to provide the homeowners with a network that supports the home’s current and future IT needs, so they never have to worry about slow speeds or systems falling off the network.
This project is a great example of a collaboration between our Crestron programming company and the homeowners. The homeowners had input on the project in the areas that were most important to them, but also trusted us to do our job and design an integrated system that would be easy to use and give them the functionality they were looking for.
