Crestron Programming for Mitsui LA’s Video Conferencing System
Mitsui & Co. is one of the largest corporate groups in the world, with 130 offices in 63 countries. They are involved in a diverse range of business sectors, including, but not limited to, energy, infrastructure projects, iron and steel products, food and retail management, and IT and communications.
AVPA was brought in by the Mitsui Los Angeles office’s IT partner, Syscom Global Solutions, to help them build a better video conferencing system. The Los Angeles office has one large conference room that seats 25-30 people, with a large TV at one end and multiple microphones.
Their existing video conferencing system was built around the Polycom G7500, which utilized the Polycom TC8 touch interface. The team at AVPA replaced the TC8 touch panel with a custom-programmed Crestron TSW 1070 and an iPad. The new touch panels emulate the look of the Polycom interface that the Mitsui employees were used to, but they give them the advantage of greater functionality as well as a larger, more sophisticated interfaces.
The new Crestron interface gives the Los Angeles office centralized control over their video conferencing system and the conference room’s TV, as well as the digital signal processor (DSP). It also gives Mitsui LA room for expansion, as they can easily add in lighting control, shade control, and/or room scheduling functionality, if desired. And because the interfaces were designed to look and function similarly to the TC8 touch panel, there was minimal training required for the system’s end users upon completion.
The Los Angeles office will serve as the prototype for Mitsui’s other offices in the United States—with the company’s New York headquarters being the next office to receive the conversion. When all of Mitsui USA’s offices are completed, it will give Mitsui employees a seamless video conferencing experience from office to office.
